Located in central Europe, Switzerland is a country famed for it’s vast natural beauty. From the Swiss Alps to landmark lakes, stunning resorts and hiking trails, there is much in the way of natural wonders to discover. Of course, the country is known for being a banking and finance epicentre, and the city centres are home to historic, characterful buildings that today act as banks. This blends of old and new, natural and manmade create many interesting juxtapositions that appeal to filmmakers and stills photographers alike.

With two main production centres in Geneva and Zurich, Switzerland has a well established film industry already. At NEEDaFixer, we have a global network of film fixers that can assist productions with many aspects of arranging a Swiss shoot. When it comes to finding a film fixer to help with your next production in Switzerland, NEEDaFIXER can help.

We have local talent that can assist with arranging production for feature films, documentaries, shorts, advertisements and a range of other shoots. We can help arrange a number of items, such as:

  • Costs and financing. Switzerland is one of the world’s most expensive shoot locations. Exempt from the Euro (the currency is the Swiss Franc), the country commands a high price for filming here, especially when it comes to large expansive shoots. It’s here that a local film fixer can be really beneficial; we can use our expertise to negotiate deals and rates to productions of any budget maximise the cost-efficiency of the shoot.
  • Film permits. Home to a long-established movie industry, Switzerland makes acquiring film permits a straightforward process. A service producer can help you find the right permit for either a public or private location, as many of the latter are normally keen to welcome those who’d like to film.
  • Crews and talent sourcing. There is a bevvy of local talent in Switzerland, with film professionals hailing from nearby Italy, France and Germany. There are some local producers and directors, but many international crews choose to film movies in Switzerland as it serves as a maj0r European production centre. We can help you find talent within the country and from neighboring countries as needed.
  • Travel. The country is well served by roads and infrastructure, with several tunnels connecting Switzerland to the bordering countries. A number of international and domestic flights make travel to and from the country straightforward, too.
  • Translation. While French and English are predominantly spoken, some German and Italian can also be heard throughout Switzerland depending on where you are filming. If you require help with translation, one of our local film fixers in Switzerland can provide assistance.
  • Whether you require a hotel, serviced or self-catered accommodation will depend on things such as the shoot location, scale of the production and budget. A film fixer will be able to take this into consideration when helping to arrange your stay for the duration of your shoot.
  • Visas. Switzerland is a member of the Schengen Area, even though it is not a member of the EU. As such, cast and crews can normally enter and film for up to 90 days without needing a visa. Should there be any need for further paperwork, a fixer can assist with arranging this.
  • Set construction and studio sourcing. Because the country is home to such a well-established film industry, there is a great deal of equipment already in place and available for use. The country is known for it’s incredible scenery, and so while much of the filming that takes place here does so on location, there are studios, backlots and post-production facilities available. Anything needed that is not in place can be sourced and imported from nearby countries in Europe.
  • Tax Incentives and credits. The Switzerland Film Investment Refund Scheme (PICS) enables co-productions to claim back between 20-40 per cent on local expenditures (provided they are eligible). There is a minimum spend requirement along with per-project maximum in place, so working with a fixer that has experience dealing with the Swiss film industry can help you maximise your returns through PICS.
  • Safety and travel advisories. Famous for it’s political neutrality, Switzerland is an incredibly safe place to film, and historically has always been a very safe and conflict-free country.

Switzerland is world famous for the mountainous scenery, with many movies filmed in the Alps.

However, there is much more than this to provide the perfect backdrop to your next film project. Rolling green meadows, pristine lakes, vineyards, lush forestry, Medieval architecture and idyllic quaint villages can be found throughout the country. With help from a local fixer, you can find the perfect selection of locations for your shoot in the vast outdoor studio that is Switzerland.

  • Geneva – Located on the southern shore of Lake Geneva, this quintessential Swiss city is surrounded by breathtaking beautiful views. Mont Blanc provides an incredible backdrop to European headquarters of the United Nations and Red Cross. French culture is predominantly found throughout the city’s many districts, making it a unique and beautiful place to film.
  • Zurich – Home to approximately 380,000 people, Zurich is a global financial hub located in northern Switzerland. This city is famed for picturesque traditional villages such as the Old Town (Altstadt), which boast incredible medieval buildings that will transport filmgoers back in time.
