FILMING IN VIETNAM
Vietnam as a Filming Destination
Vietnam is a land of contrasts, where dynamic cities meet spectacular natural beauty. From the high-rise skyline of Ho Chi Minh City to the peaceful waters of Halong Bay and the vast caves of Phong Nha, the country offers filmmakers strikingly different backdrops within a single shoot schedule. It is a destination that continues to attract international productions as well as a growing domestic industry.

Popular Filming Locations
HO CHI MINH CITY
Bustling streets, modern skyscrapers and a thriving food scene make this city an exciting location. Often referred to as Saigon, it provides a fast-paced urban backdrop with plenty of energy.
HANOI
Vietnam’s capital blends French colonial architecture, historic temples and lively street markets. The city is also home to an international film festival, making it a hub for cultural and cinematic activity.
HALONG BAY
Famous for its emerald waters and limestone karsts, Halong Bay is one of Vietnam’s most iconic filming locations. It has been featured in a number of international films and continues to inspire directors seeking breathtaking natural scenery.
PHONH NHA AND HÀNG SƠN ĐOÒNG
The dramatic cave systems of Phong Nha, including Hang Sơn Đoòng, offer extraordinary underground rivers, caverns and unique natural lighting. These locations have been used to create fantastical worlds on screen.
NINH BINH AND TRANG AN
Known for rice paddies and river valleys, Ninh Binh provides an atmospheric backdrop. Its boat routes through grottoes and lush landscapes have made it a popular choice for period and fantasy productions.

Permits, Visas and Practicalities
Filming permits in Vietnam are handled through the Ministry of Culture and can take several weeks depending on the project scale. Visas are usually issued alongside filming permits, and our team will coordinate both on your behalf.
Vietnam is hot and humid, with a distinct monsoon season. In the north, heavy rains fall from October to April, while in the south the wet season lasts from May to November. Filming around the Tết holiday can also be challenging, but NEEDaFIXER will advise on the best timeframes.
Equipment can be hired locally, although specialist gear may be easier to import with our support. We can also arrange drones, specialist operators and crew as required.
